We celebrate Diwali every year – and this year’s party at the Northern College gymnasium was everything we hoped for: loud, warm, colourful and full of joy. Friends and neighbours from many different cultures came together, and for an evening the whole place felt like one big, happy family. From the first lights to the final dance, it was a night to remember.
The music set the tone: bhangra beats, Bollywood favorites, some contemporary tracks and plenty of room for everyone to get up and dance. Performances lit up the stage, and then the floor opened for anyone who wanted to show their moves. People laughed, took selfies under strings of lights, and cheered as kids spun around with sparklers in hand. It was exactly the mix of tradition and fun we love about Diwali.
Of course, there were sweets – lots of them. Tables groaned with mithai, jalebi, ladoo and savoury snacks that guests passed around and shared. Food really brought people together; strangers swapped plates and stories, and new friendships began over chai and samosas. It was a delicious reminder that good food and good company make any celebration complete.
What made the night special was the way so many different cultures joined in. Neighbours who’d never met before were dancing side by side, and volunteers from across the community helped set up, serve food and clean up afterward. There was a real spirit of togetherness – “Shubh Diwali!” and “Happy Diwali!” echoed across the room, along with plenty of cheer and playful chatter.
A huge thank-you to everyone who made the evening possible – the performers, the kitchen teams, the volunteers, and everyone who brought a dish or just came ready to celebrate. You all made the gym at Northern College into a warm, welcoming space full of light.
We had a blast – and we hope you did too. If you missed it, mark your calendar for next year. Let’s do it again, even bigger and brighter. Shubh Diwali – may the lights of tonight carry warmth and joy into the year ahead!
